Preview Android 5.1 for the Motorola DROID Turbo on Verizon’s website

#Android51 #DavidSchuster – Preview Android 5.1 for the Motorola DROID Turbo on Verizon’s website : If you have a Motorola DROID Turbo, you’re probably patiently awaiting its Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrade. Verizon has promised it’s on the way, and it is now giving customers the opportunity to preview the software early on its website.

No, you can’t actually download a pre-release build of Android 5.1 and install it on your DROID Turbo. That would be nice, but putting unfinished software in users’ hands is rarely a good idea — especially when it’s for devices we rely on daily, like our smartphones.

But you can visit Verizon’s website and “get to know” the DROID Turbo using an interactive guide that walks you through things like downloading apps and adding widgets to your home screen, using Google Now and Google Maps, and browsing the web in Google Chrome.

The tool has actually been available for some time, but on June 11, Verizon updated it for Android 5.1. So before the software actually makes its public debut, you can take a sneak peek at how it’s going to change and improve your DROID Turbo.

As for the actual update, “things are looking good,” said Motorola’s senior director of software product management, David Schuster, on Google+ last week. “We have not provided a launch date yet, but I will let you know as soon as the update is available.”

Verizon previously promised that Android 5.1 would be available on the DROID Turbo in mid-June, but it appears to have hit a snag during testing.
